in Wildlife Safaris

Wilde Ecology are teaming up with Grizedale Riding Centre in order to offer very special wildlife watching experiences on horseback.

Get closer to nature

Many wild species seem less aware of humans when they are sitting on horseback and this can allow us to get closer than usual. Our first two events will be an evening ride with a bat watching experience and a dawn chorus ride.

Not many people venture into the forest at these times; the atmosphere is wonderfully serene and the air filled with the calls of woodland birds. We might encounter badgers, foxes, deer, owls and even the newly reintroduced red kites.

Wildlife Ride and Bat Watch

We are running an Evening Wildlife Ride and Bat Watch on Wednesday 11th April. This ride will leave Grizedale Riding Centre at Bowkerstead Farm at 19:00. The ride will be for approximately an hour and a half followed by bat watching over the river at the centre.

Dawn Chorus Ride

A Dawn Chorus Ride will take place on Friday 13th April. This ride will leave Grizedale Riding Centre at Bowkerstead Farm at 07:00. The ride will be for approximately an hour and a half listening to the cacophony of bird song and learning to identify some of the singers.

How to book

Please contact Grizedale Riding Centre on 01229 885110 or 07598 758 783 to book your place.

Prices:
£30 including hire of horse
£15 if you bring your own horse

This is a 1.5 hour ride. The ride is along forest tracks and potentially “off track” in places. The ride will be tailored to the group on the day; please be clear about your riding experience.

Why not take advantage of the overnight stabling which is offered at the centre and camp over?

We can also offer tailor made wildlife on horseback experiences. Contact us with your ideas and requirements to find out more.
